P&I Correspondents

ARC Legal is one of the specialized P&I correspondents in Pakistan for Gwadar Port with a team of dedicated correspondents, legal advisory, claims handling, loss adjusting and surveyors under the one roof. We are proud to represent the P&I Clubs in Pakistan. A team of people with vast experience in the P&I Industry, in-house lawyers, surveyors, and loss adjusters with legal & nautical background are available to assist Clubs and their members, insurers, ship owners and charterers. Cargo claims, oil pollutions, collisions, stowaways, personal injuries, repatriation of crew, bunker disputes or any further liabilities.

Our aim to offer excellence to the P&I Clubs and their members is reflected by our nomination as Correspondent.

We are primarily commercial Correspondents for Protection mutual associations, we provide services for:

  • The real needs of P&I Clubs, Underwriters and Ship-owners in a cost-effective manner without compromising quality.
  • Provide consultancy services to foreign insurers insuring in the Pakistan Market.
  • Provide comprehensive investigating in claim settlement services.
  • Appoint local surveyors or attend in person.
  • Intervention to report to both the club and the member.
  • Provide a link with the local authorities.
  • Appoint attorneys to provide a unique legal service in response to the needs of P&I Clubs, Underwriters, Cargo Owners and Ship Managers.

CAPT. KHALIL U KHAN

Capt. Khalil U Khan - Chairman of the ARC Legal is also the Group Chairman of Oceanic Group of Companies. He established a sole proprietorship servicing Marine Survey in 1970 which over the years have been transformed into Oceanic Group of Companies. He is position holder in L.L.M (Master of Laws) and has been Dean of Law at the DIHE University Karachi, Chartered by Govt. of Sindh. He is one of the senior Master Mariners of Pakistan and has commanded Vessels on International routes. He has been marine consultant for last forty years. He is Vice Chairman of Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport Pakistan. Capt. Khalil is a Nautical & Insurance Consultant and Authorized Surveying Officer, licensed by Govt. of Pakistan. He is Regional Director for International Institute of Marine Surveying Pakistan. He was the youngest captain of the era in 1967 when he was given the command of ship. Senate Member of Karachi University. Capt. Khalil U Khan is a fellow of Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport, U.K., Nautical Institute, U.K., Royal Institute of Navigation, U.K., Institute of Marine Surveyors, U.K., Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers, U.K, and Member of International Federation of Ship Masters Associations, NAMS U.S.A., Shipping Committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Education Committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He has written papers on shipping, freight forwarding, insurance, education and other social matters. In his book “Shipping Scenario in Pakistan” he highlighted the problems of Pakistan shipping industry and proposed solutions. His other book “The Contract of Affreightment” highlighting the unique and complex sea carriage is going to be published shortly. He is a passionate teacher and experienced nautical instructor and law lecturer. He as a Philanthropist, established Habib Khan Welfare Trust (Regd.) in 2007 to provide quality education for underprivileged children and to give them a better place in the society.

Asad U Khan

Asad U Khan, Managing Partner has over 24 years’ experience as a Group Managing Director of Oceanic Group of Companies engaged in the Insurance, Surveying & Loss Adjusting Industries. He is also the Board Member of OGC International, Canada. He possesses LLB and MBA qualification. He is Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute, London (ACII) and Associate of Claims, Insurance Institute of America, USA (AIC). He is the Fellow Member of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London (FICS) and Chartered Institute of Transport & Logistics, London (FCILT). He is also the Certified Auditor of ISO 9000 Quality Management System since May 1997, Executive Council Member of the Karachi Insurance Institute and Treasurer of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers – Pakistan Branch. He has expertise in the area of business and corporate law with a focus on insurance laws. He is instrumental in project financial close, project financing, private placement & corporate reorganization. He also advises in respect of corporate law & other financial matters.

Capt. Syed Khalid Humail

Capt. Syed Khalid Humail, a Master Mariner by profession is associated with the group since 2012. He has been Chairman of the International Institute of Marine Surveying – Pakistan Branch since 2013 and the President of Marine Academy Old Boys Association (MAcOBA) since 2015, He is also the former Chairman of the International Institute of Marine Surveying U.A.E. Branch (2009-2012) and the Pakistani Mariners Association U.A.E. (2005-2013). Capt. Syed Khalid Humail is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT). U.K. and a member of (MICS) Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers, (MIIMS) International Institute of Marine Surveying (U.K.), (MNI) Nautical Institute (U.K.), (MRIN) Royal Institute of Navigation (U.K.), (MIFSMA) International Federation of Ship Masters Association (U.K.) and (MMMSP) Life Member Master Mariners Society of Pakistan. He has 20 years of experience as a Marine Consultant looking after Pakistan National Shipping Corporation and National Shipping Co. of Saudi Arabia’s vessels heavy lift operations at Jebel Ali Port, Port Rashid & Mina Zayed (U.A.E.). He was posted in Dubai by Gulf Shipping Lines (London, U.K.) as their General Manager and worked with them for 12 years. He has sailed for 12 years on various ocean going vessels and has internationally represented and carried on/off hire, in-service and damage survey for dry containers, ISO Tank containers & reefer containers, for ICSB (International Container Survey Bureau) - Singapore/Holland, Sinspec – Singapore, T.T. Club – U.K, CMC International – Singapore, Non-exclusive surveyor in Pakistan of China Corporation Register of Shipping and Exclusive surveyor for Horizon International Naval Surveying and Inspection Bureau.

Akhter Baig

Akhter Baig, is associated with the group since 2009. He has bachelor’s degree in Commerce and is an Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute, London (ACII). He served for 12 years at Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) in Insurance & Claims department. He has a vast experience of 29 years in Marine Insurance Division at Adamjee Insurance Company where he headed the department. He worked to insure Cargo, Hull & Machinery for sea going vessels to cover P&I risks, dredgers, boats, liabilities of the ship-owners, charters and freight forwarders. He also handled the cargo claims, hull damage claims by guiding the adjusters, general average claims and connected matters of injury & death claims.

Abdul Rehman

Abdul Rehman, is associated with the group since 2009. He possesses LLB degree. He has 32 years of experience in Insurance and Maritime industry.
